Required skills

  • Lead the specification and development of a mammalian cell culture bioreactor and upstream process infrastructure in a pilot scale environment.

  • Spearhead the road mapping and development of mammalian bioreactor and upstream process infrastructure in a pilot-scale environment.

  • Lead upstream process scale-up with commercial partners.

  • Solid experience in cell culture, using sterile techniques.

  • Preparation of cell isolates from primary sources.

  • Excellent communication skills and problem solving. 

  • Excellent documentation and organizational skills.

  • Strong aptitude for impeccable attention to detail.

  • Advanced bibliographic search.

  • Develop and maintain standard operation procedures (SOP).

  • Perform fluorescence-based immunoassays using flow cytometry, magnetic bead separation and/or microscopy.

  • Cultivation and expansion of stem cells.

  • Cultivation under bioreactor conditions.

  • Work in regulated environments (e.g., GLP, GMP, etc.).

  • Evaluating business processes, identifying process waste and opportunities for improvement, developing, and recommending solutions.

  • Providing leadership, training, coaching, and guidance to team members and, on process optimization topics.

    Required Qualifications

  • 5 and + years of experience in upstream process development at a biopharma or food industry.

  • Master’s degree in biology, chemical engineering, bioengineering or biotechnology.

  • Experience scaling up an upstream mammalian cell culture process from benchtop to pilot and production-scale manufacturing.

  • Deep mammalian cell culture expertise.

  • Experience working with a variety of bioreactors at pilot/industrial scale.

  • Experience with statistical tools/DOE for experimental design or process optimization.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and are comfortable creating detailed reports and giving presentations.

  • Excellent organizational skills with impeccable attention to detail.

  • Excellent problem-solving askills both big and small and have a getting-things-done attitude.

  • You are equally comfortable working with Microsoft and other applications.
