Cell culture Biologist

The food industry is undergoing its greatest transformation. The arrival of cultivated meat will be a huge catalyst for this transformation. Understanding bovine mammalian cells and their environment allows us to use them to substitute the animal as we currently use them to produce meat.

Our vision is that within a few years, Meatleo will become an industrial meat producer, just like today's industrial food producers who use food microbiology to produce food and drinks.

We are currently looking for a Biologist or Microbiologist to join our team of scientists. As a member of the team, you will carry out 3D mammalian cell tissue culture at different scales and undertake development with our team of engineers to scale up our process.

You are an ambitious scientist with strong technical expertise and the ability to efficiently design and execute multiple experiments with minimal supervision.

In this essential role, you will work on the development of the intellectual property of our ground beef product.

Required skills

• Expert with solid experience in mammalian and/or microbial cell culture related to the food sector.

• Isolation and characterization of primary cells.

• Cellular characterization by traditional and new methods i.e. immunofluorescence, microscopy, flow cytometry.

• Cell culture of a variety of cell types, including stem cells.

• Development and optimization of defined media formulations suitable for the industrial production of cultivated meat.

• Cell culture with scaffold.

Required Qualifications

• You hold a bachelor's / master's degree in cell culture or food microbiology.

• Technical know-how in mammalian and/or microbial cell characterization.

• Knowledge of skeletal muscle and/or adipose differentiation is an asset.

• You have the skills and desire to develop formulations of media free of components of animal origin for the proliferation and differentiation of stem cells.

• Experience with bioreactors to cultivate microbial cells is an asset.

• You have knowledge of analytical techniques, notably histology and immunohistochemistry.

• You work with statistical methods.

• Fluent oral and written in French.

• Fixed remuneration comparable to what the market offers, but the comparison stops there.
